Hi all,

I hope you're all ready for Christmas or still trying to get almost ready. I wanted to take this post to start something I've been think of: a series on novel writing.

When I told some of my friends about my book coming out next year, I got a boatload of questions. "How long did it take?", "Where did you get the idea?", "How did you plan it?", so I decided that I would take some time to answer some of these questions. Today I'll start off with getting ideas and outlining your story.

Ideas can come from different places, from dreams, a conversation, or inspiration from other sources. People can get so caught up on finding something original that they don't bother writing at all. Nothing can be completely original, people with find likenesses with other sources. I got the idea for "To Catch a Rebel", from watching "Black Panther" and "The Selection" series but they were only a basis. I had different characters, different setting, and a different plot that I got from thinking about how I could tweak the premises of the 'source' material and see what I could do differently.

When it comes to outlining after you have a general direction for where you want your story to go. I'd say go scene by scene and then add your chapters later. Every scene should move your plot forward but also it's okay to have indulgent or filler scenes, just as long as they don't take too much from the plot and character development.

I hope that this has been helpful and let me know down people what other aspects of writing you'd like to see up here. I hope you guys have a merry Christmas and a very happy New Year.

Precious
