Well, we're at the end of another week and almost at the end of another year which some understandably believe is a conspiracy and that we're actually in March. I hope you are doing well and keeping safe as we approach the end of what has appeared to be a plotless year.
Today I'm going to touch a little on the writing process of "To Catch a Rebel" which though it came out just two months ago, was something I started in 2018. So for this post, expect a lot of gifs as I recount my writing journey.
I decide (again) that I want to write a book after my Leaving Cert, which at the end I'll get published.
2. I have a vague idea about a little story of a Princess in a Nigerian inspired kingdom but the plot really comes alive after I watch 'Black Panther' and 'Victoria'.
3. I make a basic plot, character, conflict, and theme structure for my novel and develop the characters (Aria, David, Beatrice, Lucky..."
4. I come up with a title (it just came to me like that).
5. Then I start writing!
6. Then I start college and begin writing less because of essays.
7. Then I have a mini existential crisis because I don't know what I can do with my degree.
8. Then I go to the Careers office to talk about it, then writing comes up and the man in the office gives me a list of publishers. I send part of my manuscript to two of them.
9. One never gets back...
10. But Olympia does and they ask for the rest!
11. So I start writing again, faster now.
12. Along the way, I come with a couple of plot twists that no one will see coming.
13. Then I'm finished and I send my manuscript to Olympia then wait to hear back from them.
14. They tell me it has potential and give me a contract!
15. We then enter the editing stage for almost a year and during that year I make some changes to the ending...
16. I give it to some friends to see what they think...
17. Then I sign it off for the last time before it goes to print.
That's the journey 'To Catch a Rebel' took and it's quite fun to see how far it's come and it has given me an even deeper respect for other writers I admire. If you want to read the original ending of the novel, subscribe to the website. It's a shocker. ;)
Thank you so much for sticking with me through this journey and I'll write to you soon.
